follow friday - the dahl diaries

One of the best things about participating in NaBloPoMo is reading the blogs of all the others who are also participating.

I especially love reading Lindsay's blog: The Dahl Diaries, and I'm so happy that she's back and blogging again - I missed her.

I really love her "Sunday Social" posts (such a great idea) and she's also got some GREAT wine recommendations and book reviews that I keep meaning to try.  Not to mention she has introduced me to some pretty fantastic blogs that she follows (like Adventures in Paris).

The thing that I truly love about her blog though is the personal stuff - like what her dream job would be, or how she spent this past weekend - as it allows me to get a glimpse into her life.

So, head on over to The Dahl Diaries and check her out!

cheddar and green onion biscuits

As I eluded to in yesterday's post, this past Tuesday evening consisted of Hubby and I being glued to the television.  After a long campaign, we were anxious to find out who would be elected (or re-elected) as the President of the United States.

After some these moments (thanks, swing states), it was finally evident that Barack Obama had been re-elected.  Thank.  Goodness.

obsessed

Hello, my name is Amanda and I'm an addict.  Yep, that's right.  I'm completely, 100% addicted to tea; David's Tea to be exact.

The other day David's unveiled their new, winter collection of teas; and, like any good addict, I was there.  I was on the hunt for something that I knew would change my life: cookie dough tea.

Yes, you read that correctly.  It's tea.  Flavoured like sugar cookie dough.  With no calories.  See why I'm addicted?

travel recap - kaltenbach (days 3 and 4)

Our third day in Germany was a nice, relaxing one. In the morning, we drove out, and hiked to, an old, nearby ruin. It was really neat, as there was an old tower (complete with a spiral staircase) that you could climb up and get a fantastic view of the black forest. It was pretty neat - and also really neat to be able to do something that my Oma used to do when she was a little girl.

After hiking back down to the car, I was getting a little hangry, so my family decided that we should head into Kandern for some lunch. Hubby, my mom, and brother all ordered schnitzel, but Oma and I went for the spaetzle. The one that we ordered was mixed with cheese and onions. "It's the German version of macaroni and cheese", I proclaimed. It was amazing; so much so that I think I'll have to make another batch of spaetzle and experiment with adding some cheese this time.

sunday suppers - mushroom bourguignon

I'm not much of a meat eater.  I'm not a vegetarian, by any means, but most of the time I'll gravitate towards vegetarian for seafood dishes when given the choice.  I call myself a flexitarian.

However, I'm married to the biggest carnivore around.  Hubby believes in "the more meat the better".

Luckily for me, Hubby is extremely easy going when it comes to what I make.  I think he's just grateful that he's not the one who has to do most of the cooking.  Since I'm in charge of the kitchen, I feed my poor meat-loving man many vegetarian meals.  Poor, poor man.

travel recap - kaltenbach (days 1 and 2)

We awoke early in our hotel in Bayeux knowing that we needed to shower, pack, eat, and get on the road to return our rental car and catch our train back to Paris.  We had two different train connections to make in this one day (we had to take three different trains in total) and we knew that missing just one of them by even a minute would affect the whole rest of our day and cause us many headaches.  Needless to say, we wanted to get to the train station with plenty of time to spare.

We got ready, filled our tummies, and arrived at the car rental place exactly at 8 am, when they opened. Even with the Hertz agent's limited English skills and our limited French skills, we managed to return the car with no problem at all and grab a taxi to the train station with plenty of time left to catch our Paris-bound train.  Why was I worried, this day was going to be a breeze!  Well, this is where things got a little interesting.
